Did you know there is a USGS streamgage at the Georgetown Waterfront Park?
This one of many streamgages that measure the height of the Potomac River every 15 mins. The height measurements are transmitted via satellite to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and are made publicly available on the USGS.gov website.
The streamgage data is used by scientists, engineers, and universities to study floods, droughts, stormwater management, water quality, bridge design, etc…just to name a few. Citizens that use the river for recreation may be interested in the streamgage data as well.
